Insured Benefits
NUFlex - What is it?

NUFlex refers to the cafeteria plan flexibility of tailoring your benefits package to meet your individual or family needs, allowing you to pick and choose benefits.

As a new, benefits-eligible employee, you may enroll for insurance benefits without evidence of insurability. Benefits choices must be finalized within your first 31 days at the University. If you want to inquire about the possibility of changing a benefit selection during that time, contact the Benefits Office at (401) 472-2600.

Your insurance coverage will begin the first day of the month following your employment or hiring date, unless you begin work on the first business day of the month. IN that case, your coverage will begin that day. The University provides flex credits or flex dollars, which help offset the cost of benefit premiums. Monthly paid employees are given $63.00 dollars each paycheck, and bi-weekly employees are given $31.50 dollars each paycheck. If all benefits are waived by the employee, flex dollars are still issued, and they become taxable income. Insurance premiums are paid with pre-tax dollars, with the exception of the cost of employee life insurance over $50,000.00, and any dependent life insurance coverage.

Dependent children may be covered under your health, dental, and life insurance plans as long as they are under age 19, or age 24 if they attend school full-time.
