Work/Life- Finding Options in a Complex World
What is a Work-Life Program?
We often find ourselves having difficulty trying to balance the demands of everyday responsibilities of our personal lives and those of our careers. Everyday, employees are faced with the ever increasing challenge to maintain the delicate balance between their work and home lives. The Work-Life program is designed to support faculty and staff in managing their work, family, and personal responsibilities.
How Does the Work-Life Program Work?
On-line Resources - Offer University employees access to information on child care, elder care, family issues, emotional health, healthy lifestyles and workplace issues. The resources include on-line assessments, educational information and articles, UNL connections and resources and links to quality information/resources.
Workshops - Monthly educational workshops are hosted on specific topics related to work-life areas. Check the UNL Work-Life webpage for the topic of the month and the experiential activities offered related to that topic.
Problem Solving Services - Call to speak directly with a professional counselor for advice or to receive local referral resources specifically related to your unique situation.
EAP Counseling - The UNL Employee Assistance Program offers free, confidential assessment, referral and short-term counseling for employee and their family members.

Work-Life Featured Topic of the Month
Depression
There are times when all of us feel sad, blue or ‘down' and can't seem to get any enjoyment out of life. For most people, these feelings are short-lived and we are able to again enjoy our daily activities. For others however, the emotional pain becomes too uncomfortable and prolonged and becomes an interference in our lives. Depressive illnesses affect about 19 million people each year-affecting the way they feel, the way they think and how they react to their environment.
October is Depression Awareness Month and a great time to provide awareness of the impact of depression on individuals, families and relationships and on the workplace.
