On your first day we want you to feel welcomed and be prepared to start working as you begin to understand what it means to be a part of the Husker community and your team.
Obtain your NUID number.
Your Nebraska University Identification (NUID) number is a unique 8-digit number that is your University of Nebraska identity. Once your new hire paperwork is processed, Your HR representative will provide you with your NUID or you may look it up at TrueYou.nebraska.edu. You will need this number to access various services.
Once you have your NUID, you may complete the tasks below, even if it is before you arrive on campus. Services and accounts will be activated within 24–48 hours after you claim or activate each process.
Claim Your Online Identity

Claim your online identity and set the passwords for your TrueYou and MyUNL accounts. TrueYou credentials are used at all University of Nebraska campuses and Nebraska State Colleges to access the Student Information System, SAP and Firefly. Your MyUNL login is used to access online services provided by the university (e.g., email) services.
If you are affiliated with another university campus and entitled to multiple campus accounts, please contact your HR representative before claiming you online identity.
Obtain Your NCard

Submit your photo and complete the online application online. You can also go to the NCard & Bursar’s Office at 121 Canfield Administration Building North. You will need to present one form of government issued photo ID. This ID can be issued by federal, state or local government agencies provided it contains a photograph, name and date of birth such as driver's license, passport, or military ID.
Use Your University Email
Your Microsoft 365 Account
You can find your email address by logging into Firefly and clicking on Employee Self Service (ESS) and then on My Employment > Position Information, and your email will be listed in the Work Address section.
You can access your email via:
- the web Portal
- from your PC or Mac using Outlook
- from your Smartphone
Ask your department about other services you may need:
Building and door access may be needed if working on campus after business hours.
If performing business processes such as finance, accounting, purchasing, or human resources management, you will need access to SAP, the University's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
For Academic and Learning Services, ask about access for Canvas (Learning Management System) and MyRed (Student Information Portal). You may also need the PI Regulatory Onboarding Checklist from the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED).
