Benefits
Health & Medical Benefits
The University of Nebraska system is self-insured, providing a strong array of medical benefits to our employees that include medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, long-term care, prescription drug coverage, telehealth, virtual physical therapy program, and diabetes support. Eligibility includes the employee and their dependents, including spouse or same-sex and opposite-sex partners and their dependent children.
Retirement Benefits
We work with Fidelity and TIAA to offer three plans including the 401(a) Basic Retirement Plan that has a matching contribution from the university. For example, the employee contributes 5.5% at the tier 2 level and the University contributes 8.0%. Plus, you are 100% vested when you start contributing.
Voluntary retirement plans include 403(b) Supplemental and 457(b) Deferred Compensation.
Employees can schedule a one-on-one counseling sessions with our campus consultant at no cost to them.
Life Insurance Benefits
We provide term life insurance through Assurity Life Insurance Company in the amount of your salary at no cost to you. It is one times your annual salary up to $120,000.
Additional insurance options include Voluntary Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), and Dependent Life Insurance.
Work & Life Balance
Full-time employees get two protected pools of sick and vacation leave instead of one in the case of PTO (personal time off). New employees start with eight hours of sick leave. You can earn up to 1,440 of accrued sick leave. This generous sick leave reserve also covers your immediate family, such as children’s doctor or dentist appointments. The accrued vacation leave is yours to use freely, and that pays out if you ever leave university appointment. Unlike PTO, getting sick doesn't cost you your vacation.
Employees get thirteen (13) legal holidays. At times, the University Academic Calendar requires that University offices be open and staffed on certain state holidays. If you're required to work that day, you get one hour of paid time off for every hour you worked. This becomes a banked, or “floating” holiday. Most employees save these hours and use them during the winter break between Christmas and New Year's, when the university is closed.
Flexible Work Options
We offer employees the ability to flex their work schedule and/or use an alternative worksite that fosters personal and professional success and satisfaction. Each department is different and these options vary based on the requirements of the position and staffing needs in the workplace.
Tuition Benefits
Employee & Dependent Scholarship Program
Tuition assistance up to 15 credit hours is available to employees, their spouses, and dependent children through the scholarship program. This is a value of up to $3,885/year for undergraduate classes and over $5,000/year for graduate classes.
