How do I find contact information for staff and other people at Nebraska?

Finding contact information for anyone at Nebraska is easy – just type the person’s name into the search box at the top of any page on the university website. You can also go to directory.unl.edu. Here is where you can upload your avatar for using in University systems

You can provide an image to be used as your account avatar and other profile information by logging in to the Manage Profile on Directory.

Customize a university email signature using the the Directory's Signature Generator. You can use your default information or customize the details.

You have the opportunity to store a chosen name, as well as pronouns, in university systems. Faculty and staff can maintain this information in Firefly, under Employee Self-Service > About Me. Chosen name will be shared in the public Directory.

What’s the easiest way to find where I’m going and get around the campuses?

All you need to know to get around campus can be found on the Campus Maps website. There you’ll find directions, real-time locations for your bus routes and information on where to park your car or bike. How do I know when I'll get paid?

The Pay Schedule is available online.

Biweekly Payday (O/S and M/P employees) - Payday is every other Thursday* as designated by the payroll schedule. The payday is for the preceding pay period, not the pay period that has just ended. E.g., the payday on May 29, 202, is for the pay period May 2-15, 2025.

Monthly Payday (M/P employees) - Payday is the last working day* of the month. E.g., the payday on May 30, 2025, is for the pay period May 1-31, 2025.

Standard Academic Year (faculty) pay is paid in 12 equal monthly installments over the period of September through August. Faculty should consult their letter of offer regarding specific pay schedules.

* If the payday falls on a federal holiday, payday will be the first preceding workday.

What holidays are recognized by the university and offices are closed for?

The university provides 13 holidays (8 observed and 5* floating holidays) a year to all regular staff. University classes and offices are closed on observed holidays, but are operational and staffed on floating holidays, allowing staff to take alternate holiday time off during the December holiday closedown established by the academic calendar.

The contract dates and working days for Academic Year (AY) faculty begin seven days prior to the first day of classes in the fall semester and end seven days after the last day of final exams in the spring semester. Academic Calendar of classes.

Living in Nebraska also means the possibility of inclement weather and the possibility of the closure of the university (see Inclement weather closure pay policy). Our campus uses UNL Alert to the campus community by text messaging or email for all weather-related closing and campus emergencies.

*If you begin work after designated floating holidays, ask your supervisor about options available to you to fill the unaccrued time during closedown.

Where can I find my paycheck stubs, W-2, and my vacation/sick leave balances?

In Firefly (our human resources portal), click on the Employee Self Service (ESS) tile. You will see the W-2 Form tile, Paycheck Inquiry tile, and the Leave Balances tile. Firefly ESS is also where your Sick and Vacation Leave Accrual is located.

To view your W-2, you will need to enter the last four digits of your Social Security Number in the Firefly Security Verification window before you may continue. At the bottom of the screen while viewing your W-2, you can click the Download to Print button to save a .pdf of your W-2 to your computer that you can open and print.

What is the difference between TrueYou and MyUNL?

Your NUID (Nebraska Unique IDentifier) is an 8-digit number that serves as a unique identifier in campus systems and can be found on your NCard.

Your MyUNL username is the first initial of your first name followed by your last name and a number (e.g., hhusker2).

TrueYou uses your NUID with a password (your TrueYou credentials) to login to in several systems (i.e. Firefly, SAP) shared among the University of Nebraska and Nebraska State College System. MyUNL uses the same password as TrueYou, but with your username instead of your NUID.

What can I use my NCard for?

The NCard is Nebraska’s photo ID and campus card that you should always carry it with you. You can use your NCard to access buildings after hours, eat at dining centers, receive discounts from campus vendors, and much more. Visit the NCard Office website for a detailed list of uses and more information on setting up your NCard Campus Account.

How do I learn the jargon used on campus?

Does it seem like people around you are speaking another language? On our campus and in higher education, we use a lot of unique terms, acronyms, and abbreviations. Use our Husker Language Decoder to familiarize yourself with our terminology.
