University adds director of organizational development to better support employees

Human Resources has added a director of organizational development to better support University of Nebraska–Lincoln employee needs.

Through a restructuring within Business and Finance, Celeste Spier has been named director of organizational development. Spier had served in a similar role within University Operations since October 2021.

The restructuring is intended to expand the availability of organizational development services on campus. Potential initiatives for the role include expanding training and learning opportunities for staff; developing a proactive leadership development program; and launching a university-wide mentoring program.

“I am excited to have Celeste join the HR team,” said Steve Beck, assistant vice chancellor for human resources. “Professional development is a key ingredient to the future success of our students, staff, and faculty. It is a priority goal set by the N2025 Strategic Plan that we’re diligently working to achieve.”

Spier has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Doane University, and a doctorate in educational leadership and higher education from UNL. She has worked on campus since 2008.

Spier is planning a listening tour to identify and build relationships with camps partners, and to learn about needs and priorities. For more information or to host a listening session, contact Spier at cspier2@unl.edu.
